I received a copy of 642 Things to Write About for Christmas this year, and I’ve decided I am going to attempt to complete no less than three prompts per week, with the hope of completing the entire book before December 31st, 2016.
Since I’m already twelve days into the new year, I decided I needed to get started today before I end up scrambling to complete the prompts at the end of the week (and defeat the ultimate purpose: to reignite my normal flow of creativity).
So, let’s get started.
Prompt #1: “What can happen in a second.”
A star burns out.
A star is born.
A last breath.
Hope.
A first smile.
The first kiss.
Forgiveness.
A world record.
A mistake.
Fall in love.
Peace.
A Google search.
A missed train.
A second chance.

A lot can happen in a second. The whole world can change. This writing prompt reminded me of the film Stranger Than Fiction, and the wristwatch worn by Harold Crick. If you haven’t seen Stranger Than Fiction, I strongly suggest you check it out: one of Will Farrell’s best performances.
On that note … writing prompt numero uno is finished. A good, albeit short, start to a year of “pumping the well.”

Thanks for sharing this! I have that DVD and I haven’t watched it yet. Maybe this weekend!
