Wow! Has it been a year already?
This day one year ago, my personal weight loss journey was published on the Healthy Living section of Huffington Post.
While this in itself was a big deal, what happened following the publication was mind-blowing: for some reason, the story went VIRAL. It was picked up the next day by Daily Mail UK and the next thing I knew, I was being called by Good Morning America, Dateline NBC, and several other news stations.
It was a whirlwind of calls, emails, and emotions – here I was, just 24 hours before graduation – getting calls from the Executive Producer of a major TV show.
My hesitation to agree to an interview led to a bigger breaking story (remember the lady that drove her car into the White House gate? Yeah, that was the day Good Morning America! called me!) knocked me off the radar. In retrospect, I think it was a good thing… I don’t want to be famous for being a heavy girl that lost weight; I want to be famous for my writing, for my philanthropy, or for my intellect.
Despite the missed opportunity of appearing on TV, I did get over 20,000 hits to my dieting blog and nearly 1,500 views on my personal documentary on YouTube.
All in all, it was a major learning experience for me and a great way to end my education at Full Sail University, don’t you think?
Happy Thursday, everyone!
