WHEW!
Sorry I haven’t posted in a few days, guys and gals!
I started a new class on Monday, a Writing Workshop for Film/TV, and it has kept me BUSY!
We’re reading two textbooks this month:
AND
The course is already quite challenging, with three discussion board assignments due on Wednesday, a lecture on Thursday, and several quizzes due by the end of the week.
And I’m totally PSYCHED about it!
Why, in God’s name, am I excited for so much work?
Screenwriting has been the hardest format for me to pick up. With extra effort, I was able to power through my last Scriptwriting Course with an A, but it took multiple rewrites and a lot of constructive criticism from the instructor to get me to that level. I’ve always struggled with the concept of “economy of words,” so learning to trim my verbosity has been a lifelong challenge.
While I know this class is going to be difficult for me, it’s also going to help reinforce the practice of choosing my words with more precision and learning to SHOW, not TELL in my writing. Visual storytelling is a crucial skill that I must have if I ever plan to extend my work into the entertainment mediums.
While my ultimate goal is to be a novelist, I certainly don’t want to shut the doors to Hollywood unnecessarily! 🙂
So, with that being said, please don’t be mad at me if I only manage a post every a couple of days per week. I’ve tried to be pretty consistent with a post every 1-2 days, but I need to be realistic that it might not be as easy this month, considering: my job, school, side-projects, and the fact that we’re closing on our house [fingers crossed!] on April 5th.
Busy, busy, busy!
I’m optimistic, however, that I’ll be able to SHOW my successful projects on here soon!
